Laughing Feast (For Maame Adjoa Esaaba Archine)

She is
laughter on legs
mirth let loose
gaiety gone wild
one rolling, rollicking, ball of sheer cheer

one or two tear drops -
as grease
to oil the wheels of the glee
a tap and a pat on the thigh
for a change
to change gears

a choke, hiccups, a cough -
as speed rumps
for effect, for safety's sake

frantic waves of hand over mouth
to clear the fog on the windshield
for the next lap...

brief bouts of heaves and sighs, and
the cycle,
the feast,
begins,
all over again...
